| Turkey Hunters Help Feed Thousands During Holidays
EDGEFIELD, S.C. — Thousands of less-fortunate families had good reasons to smile during the recent holiday season as volunteers from the National Wild Turkey Federation spread holiday cheer in communities all over North America.
 The National Wild Turkey Federation's River Valley Longbeards Chapter from Ohio was one of 267 NWTF chapters across North America to donate frozen, domesticated turkeys and other foods to families in need during the 2010 holiday season.
"Each holiday season, the Turkey Hunters Care program touches the lives of thousands of hungry people," said George C. Thornton, NWTF CEO. "Our volunteers understand the importance of showing the world that although the NWTF's primary focus is helping wildlife, we also want to improve and partner with the communities in which we have a presence."
For the third consecutive year, the East Coast Gobblers Chapter from Manitowoc, Wis., led the way with 902 frozen, domesticated turkey donations.
Since Turkey Hunters Care began, NWTF chapters have given 132,608 frozen turkeys to less fortunate families in nearly every state in the U.S., and in several Canadian provinces. The donations have resulted in 787,440 meals for grateful recipients.
Founded in 1973, the NWTF is dedicated to the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of our hunting heritage.
Through dynamic partnerships with state, federal and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members have helped restore wild turkey populations across the country, spending more than $331 million to conserve 15.9 million acres of habitat for all types of wildlife.
The NWTF works to increase interest in the outdoors by bringing new hunters and conservationists into the fold through outdoor education events and its outreach programs - Women in the Outdoors, Wheelin' Sportsmen, JAKES and Xtreme JAKES.
